Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for January 3rd, 2022. It’s our first article of the year, and as you might expect there isn’t a whole lot of news to go over. There are a handful of new games however, and we have summaries of each of them. There are also some new sales to look at, and we’ve got our lists of both those and the expiring sales of the day. Let’s kick off the year!

New Releases

Putt-Putt Travels Through Time ($14.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Once upon a time, some cool people who worked at Lucasarts split off and started Humongous Entertainment. They kept right on making the point-and-click adventures they had been making at Lucasarts, but aimed them at a younger audience. They turned out to be very successful, at least for a while. Putt-Putt Travels Through Time is one of those games, originally released on computers in 1997. Again, I have to stress that this game is meant for kids, but it’s well-made enough that I think adults can still have a little fun with it. There’s even a bit of replay value due to the game rearranging some elements each time you start a new playthrough.

Freddi Fish 3: The Case of the Stolen Conch Shell ($14.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Here’s another point-and-click adventure from the Humongous Entertainment library. This one is Freddi Fish’s third adventure, which sees the titular character trying to track down a missing conch shell of no small importance. Like Putt-Putt, this one mixes some things up on each new playthrough to add some replay value. Also like Putt-Putt, this is aimed at a younger set but is reasonably enjoyable for adults as well. A great game to play with your kids, if you’re looking for something in that milieu.

Biker Garage: Mechanic Simulator ($24.99)

Do you like Car Mechanic Simulator but wish it was all about motorbikes? Well, that’s what this is. Personally, I’ve exhausted what little enthusiasm I had for this kind of game a long time ago, but my research tells me that this is a rather solid example of the genre. There are fifteen different types of bikes to work on, an expandable garage, and you can even test the bikes out on a quarter-mile track. So yes, if you can’t get enough of these, here you are.

Crumble ($14.99)

This is alright. You play as a speedy little slime that has to zip through stages that are collapsing all around it. You can jump pretty well, and you can use your tongue to swing around. Play the campaign mode alone or dive into the party mode to play with a friend via local multiplayer. It can be a bit frustrating in places and the controls aren’t as tight as I would ideally prefer, but if you’re patient with it you’ll find Crumble to be a pretty good time.

Sorcerer Knights ($14.99)

A somewhat shabby beat-em-up with a medieval theme that you can play alone or with a friend in local multiplayer mode. This sells for five dollars on Steam and is currently on sale for half that price, so I’m not really sure what thinking is in charging fifteen on Switch. You can find a wide array of considerably better brawlers than this on the eShop for that price. Heck, you can grab the Capcom Beat ‘Em Up Bundle in the same range and get several better games.

Underground Bundle: Dungeon Adventure and Miners Races ($2.99)

Two of Gametry’s template flips for one slightly lower price. I didn’t recommend them separately, and I don’t recommend them bundled.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Not the most exciting bunch compared to the last couple of weeks, but it’s still better than the average weekend bunch. My personal picks would be Gemini Arms, Highrise Heroes, and Quell. The outbox has a fair bit of stuff in it, including discounts from Capcom, Marvelous, and more. Have a careful look through the expiring sales in particular, as I expect we may not see some of them again for quite some time.

That’s all for today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow with… something. There aren’t any scheduled releases as far as I can see, and I can’t imagine there will be much news. Can we eat on sales alone? Probably not. Don’t worry, ol’ Shaun will think of something. I hope you all have a great Monday, and as always, thanks for reading!
