Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for February 18th, 2022. In today’s article, we’ve got a handful of new releases to close out the week with. A couple of interesting ones in there, and we’ve got summaries of all of them as usual. We’ve also got the usual lists of new and expiring eShop discounts for you to consider. It seems Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack subscribers can also look forward to The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask being added to the Nintendo 64 app next Friday. My bet on the next game is Kirby 64, but I guess that’s a matter for next week. Let’s finish things up for this one!

New Releases

Gem Wizards Tactics ($12.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

If you’re familiar with any of Keith Burgun’s previous games like Auro or 100 Rogues, you know the guy can put together some very solid strategy experiences. Gem Wizards Tactics is his latest, coming to the Switch after previous launches on mobile and computers. It takes place on hex grids, so you know it’s the real deal. There are four nations to choose from, with twenty-six unique units spread across them, and multiple modes of play including a story mode. You’ve got access to a wide array of abilities and spells to use against your opponents, creating plenty of fun scenarios. Most of them are powered at least in part by gems that are scattered around the board, so you’ll need to be a bit aggressive about gathering them before your opponents can. A very cool game, and one I strongly recommend.

Gravity Runner ($9.99)

I was going to gripe again about how tired I am of the 80s synthwave aesthetic in games, but you’ve all heard me bang that drum too often. So let’s just cut to the chase on this one. It’s a 3D platformer/runner with fourteen different levels to make your way through. Collect the tapes found scattered about for extra points and a boost to your mobility. You’ll need it, as you’re being pursued by what amounts to a black hole expanding at a terrifying rate. It’s okay, but make sure you like the whole synthwave thing because this game continuously vomits it out of every orifice.

Rover Mechanic Simulator ($11.99)

Well, it’s been a hot minute since the last simulation game from Ultimate hit the eShop. This one focuses on repairing rovers. Yes, like the Mars Rover. Apart from that rather unique point, this is about the same as all of the rest. Take apart the rovers, fix what you can, replace what you can’t, and gradually upgrade your tools and facilities using the resources you earn. As always, the UI is clearly designed around mouse controls and is a bit fiddly here on the Switch. Some people are really into this kind of game, and although I can’t say I’m one of them, I’m happy they keep getting their fix.

Mages and Treasures ($4.99)

A cute, albeit brief, top-down action adventure game that sees you playing as a little mage trying to get their treasure back from the evil forces that made off with it. Travel the world, find magical artifacts that give you new spells and abilities to use, and seek out the amulets that will give you the power to defeat the bad guys once and for all. Not too bad for a fiver, but do keep in mind it won’t take you more than a couple hours to finish.

Pixel Game Maker Series Arcanion: Tale of Magi ($10.99)

The latest in the Pixel Game Maker series may sound like an adventure game, but it turns out to be more of a Mega Man-like action platformer. Nothing wrong with that. Play as a young warrior named Magi who is trying to recover a lost treasure from a thief. There are ten different levels to play, and you can tackle them in the order you choose. You’ll earn new powers and equipment as you clear each level, which might make other levels easier to clear. Well, you know how it goes. There are a few rough edges here, but it’s an okay game.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

I’ll level with you: I was expecting a bigger list today. Still, there are a few things worth nothing in the new batch. Project Warlock is a cool FPS that isn’t on sale too often. The Procession to Calvary is funny and fun. Mostly funny, mind you. Those Cape’s Escape Game titles aren’t too shabby. The weekend outbox is quite healthy in its own right, so make sure you double-check it and see if anything catches your eye before it’s too late.
