Earlier this month Aspyr Media finally announced details for the Civilization VI New Frontier Pass on iOS. Following the Civilization VI (Free) iPad launch a while ago, it has gotten updated with new DLC and expansions including the universal update and more. The iOS version has always been behind consoles and today’s update finally adds the New Frontier Pass as an in app purchase alongside an update that promises cross platform saves. I assume this means they fixed the login issues because it did have some cross platform saves before. The sad part about this update is there have been no visual or performance improvements. The game still looks blurry and is capped at a lower frame than it should be on newer devices. The Civilization VI New Frontier Pass includes six new DLC packs that include eight new civilizations, nine new leaders, six new game modes, new personas, and more. Watch the trailer for it below:
The Civilization VI New Frontier Pass is priced at $19.99 as an in app purchase. All prior DLC has also been updated so you will be prompted to update the DLC when you launch the game on iPad or iPhone following today’s Civilization VI 1.3.0 update. Make sure you let this update so all the DLC is ready for you to buy and play any of the new content. You can also purchase the free Civilization VI New Frontier Pass multiplayer compatibility DLC so you can join games without owning that content. As mentioned before, all DLC is discounted by 50% and the base game unlock is down to $4.99 until August 31st. Check out the DLC here. I’m hoping now that all the DLC content is available, Aspyr Media can work on improving the visuals and performance for newer devices.
If you’ve not played the base game or any prior expansions, read our initial iPad review here and my updated review with expansions and more here. You can try out Civilization VI for free on the App Store for iOS here. We featured it as our Game of the Week when it released. Have you tried the game on iOS or any other platform yet and are you planning on buying the New Frontier Pass?
